BWT Alpine F1 Team today has announced the elevation of Reserve Driver Jack Doohan to a full-time race seat for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. Jack will join the already signed Pierre Gasly, creating a promising driver pairing that blends youth and experience, aimed at propelling the team towards a successful future after what has been described as a disappointing 2024 campaign so far.
The 21-year-old Australian, son of legendary five-time 500cc motorcycling world champion Mick Doohan, becomes the first Alpine Academy prospect to graduate into a race seat with the team. His journey with Alpine began as a Reserve Driver following an impressive junior career in international single-seater racing. Jack's accolades include finishing as the runner-up in the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship and securing third place in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship. In 2024, his role as a full-time Reserve Driver has seen him make significant contributions through the team's driver-in-loop simulator.
Jack made history in Formula 2 by being the first driver to achieve pole position, race win, fastest lap, and lead every lap of a Feature Race at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. Throughout his Formula 2 career, he amassed six wins, five pole positions, and five additional podium finishes. As Reserve Driver, he continues to engage in Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) events with the A522 Formula 1 car and contributes in the team's simulator on selected race weekends.
Expressing his excitement, Jack Doohan said, “Securing a full-time race seat with BWT Alpine F1 Team for 2025 is a dream come true. I’m deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by the team’s senior management. There’s a lot of work ahead, and I’m committed to absorbing all the knowledge and experience I can to be fully prepared for this step up. Being the first graduate from the Alpine Academy to earn a race seat with the team is incredibly rewarding, and I’m thankful to everyone who has supported me on this journey. It’s a momentous occasion for my family, and I’m eager to push hard and excel.”
Team Principal Oliver Oakes shared his enthusiasm, stating, “Promoting Jack to a race seat next season is a thrilling moment for us. As the first Alpine Academy graduate to step into a race position, it marks a significant milestone for our young driver pathway. Having worked with Jack since 2019, I have witnessed his raw talent and dedication. Alongside Pierre, we have a well-rounded driver lineup that combines youthful energy, seasoned experience, and remarkable speed. We look forward to working with Jack and Pierre to continue developing our car and advancing up the grid.”
