Formula 1 social outreach program “The Next Grand Prix" races into its third year.

Formula 1 is once again challenging students to immerse themselves in the exhilarating world of high-speed racing and strategic business planning through “The Next Grand Prix" initiative. Launched in 2022 in partnership with the Social Mobility Business Partnership (SMBP), this program aims to expand access to the sport for children and young individuals from diverse backgrounds.

The Next Grand Prix (TNGP) program targets students aged 16 to 18, urging them to craft a fictional bid for a new Formula One World ChampionshipTM location. Participants take on various roles within their bid teams, delving into the intricacies of hosting an F1 race and honing their skills.

The workshops have seen 281 students enthusiastically embrace the challenge of pitching their vision for the next Grand Prix, broadening their understanding of the business landscape and boosting their self-confidence and acumen in professional environments.

This year, the program has expanded its reach with a total of 10 workshops scheduled, including sessions hosted by prestigious City law firms in London. The winning teams from each workshop will advance to the “Championship Final," scheduled at F1’s Media & Technology Centre in Biggin Hill, Kent on Friday, August 9.

SMBP, a key partner in this initiative, has been instrumental in providing valuable work experience opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds. By offering placements to those meeting specific social mobility criteria, TNGP aims to pave the way for aspiring young minds to explore new horizons in the world of business.

Alex Edmiston, Lead Counsel, Commercial at Formula 1, expressed excitement about the program’s expansion in 2024, emphasizing the transformative impact it has on students’ skill development and future career prospects. He commended the participating City law firms and SMBP for their unwavering support in empowering the next generation of business leaders through TNGP.

As Formula 1 continues to drive innovation both on and off the racetrack, initiatives like The Next Grand Prix stand as testaments to the sport’s commitment to diversity, education, and cultivating talent for a brighter future.
