Modeled After Sheckler’s Personal Skatepark in California, New 8,800 Sq Ft Indoor Training Facility is Part of a Massive Renovation Underway at Woodward Camps.
This summer, Woodward Pennsylvania is getting a major facelift. Pro Skateboarder and three–time X Games gold medalist Ryan Sheckler is leading the charge with the design and unveiling of the Sandlot East Skatepark.
At 8,800 square feet, Sandlot East is a next–generation version of Sheckler’s personal training facility in California. It’s designed for intermediate to higher ability level Skate Campers and pro level athletes to train.
Sheckler, who has been part of the Woodward family for 24 years, is the Skate Program Designer for the Pennsylvania location. He’s excited to share his experiences as a professional skateboarder with the next generation.
“The partnership with Woodward is amazing to me,” said Sheckler. “I get to be involved with the next generation of skateboarders and athletes and I get to share my experiences that I have had being a pro. It’s super gratifying and I can’t wait for this summer!”
Sandlot East features a variety of quarter–pipes with heights that range from 3‘ to 7’; three different stair sets; one hubba; and four down rails. Approximately 15 unique features are blended together to offer endless lines, combinations, and trick opportunities. Stair gaps, long, wide ledges and flat rails, a pyramid with a top ledge, and transition banks, corners, and hips are all part of the park.
“Ryan has a decades–long history with Woodward and has been such a phenomenal partner so when we embarked on this major renovation, he was our very first call because we knew we had the opportunity to create something really unique,” said Woodward President Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson. “Sandlot East is designed to be a continuation of what Ryan built for his personal skate training facility so this will very literally allow Woodward campers to skate Sheckler’s latest idea of the ultimate TF.”
The park is being built by Mike Roebke of BLDRS, whose portfolio includes parks for professional skateboarders Shane O’Neill, Paul Rodriguez, and brands such as Primitive, April skateboards, and Diamond Supply Co.
“Sandlot East is the most beautiful skatepark I’ve been involved in designing,” said Shecker. “I love it so much, that I can’t wait to build a replica at home.”
Construction on Sandlot East will be completed in the spring. Sheckler and the BLDRS crew will get “first wheels” in early May. It will open to Woodward Pennsylvania campers on June 4 at the start of Week 1 of camp, and Sheckler will be the VIP athlete onsite during Week 11, August 13 to 19.
Sandlot East is part of more than 42,000 square feet of facilities currently under renovation at Woodward Pennsylvania. Other new facilities will include a multisport progression hub and a reimagined snake run. This summer, Woodward Pennsylvania is set to become the premier destination for action sports experiences.
The new Sandlot East Skatepark, designed and unveiled by Sheckler, will provide the ultimate training facility for intermediate to higher ability level skate campers and pro level athletes. With its unique features and endless lines, combinations, and trick opportunities, Sandlot East is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
