2019 Vans U.S. Open of Surfing presented by Swatch Returns to Huntington Beach Saturday July 27-Sunday August 4, 2019

Action Packed Weeklong Summer Festival Features Elite Surfing, Skateboarding and BMX Competitions and Creative Activations for All Ages

The 2019 Vans US Open of Surfing presented by Swatchannounces its nine-day event schedule, featuring an action-packed calendar of engaging and creative activities for all ages, including customization workshops, onsite surfboard shaping, public skate and BMX sessions, movie premieres, vendor exhibitions, giveaways and art installations. The free-to-the public event returns to the southside of the Huntington Beach Pier this summer to celebrate the world’s best action sports talent in surfing, skateboarding and BMX competitions from July 27 through August 4, 2019.

The Vans US Open of Surfing will kick off with Vans’ annual Stoke-O-Rama surf celebration on the opening day. Hosted by the non-profit Positive Vibe Warriors Foundation, Stoke-O-Rama is a free, kids-only surf event featuring friendly surf sessions by age division, along with fun beach activities for local families to enjoy. Stoke-O-Rama helps to raise awareness and funds for local youth water safety and ocean education programs around the world. Through the Positive Vibe Warriors Foundation, all the proceeds from this year’s Huntington Beach Stoke-O-Rama event will be donated directly to the Huntington Beach YMCA in support of community beach activities.

COMPETITION
The summer event features an exceptional entertainment experience, showcasing the world’s best action sports athletes on a global stage while hosting a variety of hands-on events and creative workshops for attendees. 

  • SURF: The 2019 surfing competitions will see some of the world’s best female surfers contest for the first marquee World Surf League (WSL) Women’s Qualifying Series (QS) 10,000 since 2005, alongside the Men’s QS 10,000 with equal prize money. Both the Men and Women’s Pro Junior events also return to showcase the next generation of competitors looking to claim the esteemed Vans US Open title. 

With nearly a decade of incredible longboarding competition history in tow, the Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational is set to bring 32 of the best male and female loggers from across the globe for another classic exhibition of surf talent from Thursday, August 1 – Saturday, August 3. 

  • SKATE: The Vans Showdown, a brand-new invitational street skating contest, spotlights a new, premium street course design, and sets a new bar for skill and style by incorporating custom skate obstacles created by influential skate brands such as Quasi, Toy Machine, Girl and Baker, from Saturday, August 3 – Sunday, August 4. . Expect to see skate phenoms such as Kyle Walker, Kader Sylla, Beatrice Domond and many more take it to the next level for all the fans. Additionally, Vans will introduce for the first time at the Open, daily public skate sessions for the community to enjoy. 
  • BMX: The Vans BMX Rebel Jam is a brand-new event showcasing creative BMX street style and unique BMX obstacles on Saturday, July 27 – Sunday July 28. BMX medalists Dennis Enarson, Dakota Roche, Kevin Peraza, and Chad Kerley are just a few of the stars expected to compete.In line with skate, Vans will also host open to the public BMX sessions for the community.

FAMILY FUN
The Van Doren Village, located in the center of the event venue, features educational workshops and creative activities inspired by action sports every day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., beginning July 27. Perfect for families, sports fans, spectators and industry peers, many of Vans’ on-sand activations encourage attendees to join in, whether it’s to make their own surfboard or tote bag, surf on custom board shapes alongside the Vans Surf team at the Vans Duct Tape Festival, or roll in at the Vans Pro Park for public skate and BMX sessions daily.Vans x Golden State shaping bays and glassing demos will take place daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Wednesday, July 31 at 8 p.m., Vans will host a premiere movie screening of Alex Knost’s “Tan Madonna” at Space 777, and on Thursday, August 1 at 7 p.m., Vans and Stab Magazine will screen “Go Easy on the Zambezi” at Pacific City.
