It is no secret that the GMC Sierra AT4 is one of my favorite trucks to drive. Beyond the performance of the truck, the accessories that come along with the AT4 are innovative. When a truck bed features a place for motorcycle wheels and higher tie down points, you have officially won me over.
But what if you dont want the truck bed? What if you want the performance, but to have everything be under one roof, including the dogs and the groceries?
Introducing the 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 and by the way there are two other Yukon versions the Denali and the Denali XL.
The GMC Yukon will be powered by your choice of two V-8s or an optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6. The powertrains are familiar: a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8, a 277-hp 3.0-liter turbodiesel, and a 6.2-liter V-8 at the top of the heap will pile on 420 hp. Now if none of this makes sense to you, we can rephrase: tons of power, a lot of torque and plenty of vroom to get you to where you want to go.
More importantly, it tows the toys. While at the reveal, snowmobiling was on the agenda, and someone has to get the sleds there. With the advance towing features that come with GMC packages now, the class leading nine cameras make towing an absolute breeze. No longer will you stress about the hassles that come from all kinds of driving situations, such as towing a boat or maneuvering into the last available space in a tight parking lot. Quickly accessed through the infotainment system screen, the available camera views are:
- High Definition Surround Vision for a top-down bird’s-eye view of Yukon’s surroundings.
- Rear Camera Mirror, which is a dual-function mirror that can be used as a conventional rear-view mirror or as a camera-based rear-view mirror to help drivers see around potential vision obstructions.
- Standard Front Camera View shows front view with available guidelines to assist with parking and tight maneuvers.
- Standard Rear Camera View displays rear view to assist with parking and tight maneuvers.
- Front Top-Down View for a top-down view of the Yukon’s hood, bumper and front tires for tight maneuvers.
- Rear Top-Down View shows the clearance between the Yukon and nearby objects.
- Front Side View shows the position of the front tires when parking or maneuvering in tight spaces.
- Rear Side View shows the rear sides of the vehicle to help allow the driver to view objects near the vehicle.
- Hitch View provides a close-up, guide-lined view of the receiver hitch for precise alignment for trailer connection.
Have you ever said to yourself, “I sure wish the backend of my SUV was lower so it would be easier to load stuff?” Or… more importantly… “I wish my car sat higher so I could drive over things.”
Well you are in luck. The 2021 Yukon rides atop a frame that uses a four-wheel independent suspension for the first time. The front and rear suspensions can be supplemented by an optional air suspension, which can raise or lower the SUV by 4 inches to clear that higher terrain or load the lumber.
There are a few other features that make the 2021 Yukon Denali even more awesome, but while we have yet to drive any of the new 2021 Yukon Denalis, if they are anything like the Sierra AT4, you can be sure, it is worth the money.
