Aston Martin has emerged victorious in the competitive race to secure the signature of Adrian Newey, the renowned Formula 1 design expert, appointing him as Managing Technical Partner in a strategic, long-term deal. Newey, who boasts an impressive 25 world championships, will officially join the British manufacturer on March 1, 2025, marking a new chapter in the team's ambitious journey toward Formula 1 glory.
The announcement comes on the heels of Red Bull's declaration in May that Newey would part ways with the reigning world champions after nearly two decades. This development set off a flurry of interest from top teams, including Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Williams, eager to bring the celebrated designer into their fold. Aston Martin ultimately clinched the deal, revealing their success just days before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Key to Newey’s decision was a private tour of Aston Martin's cutting-edge factory in June, which played a crucial role in swaying him towards the team. With sweeping new regulations on the horizon, including a novel power unit formula, Newey's expertise is expected to make a significant impact on the 2026 car.
Newey will have access to Aston Martin's state-of-the-art facilities, including a new wind tunnel and in-loop simulator, and will face the exciting challenge of integrating Honda as a new works power unit supplier. Expressing his enthusiasm, Newey stated, “I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with. Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team.”

Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll echoed this sentiment, describing Newey's arrival as monumental for the team. “This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport.”
Stroll emphasized the importance of Newey's competitive spirit and vision aligning with Aston Martin's goals. “When he saw what we have built at Silverstone – our incredible AMR Technology Campus, the talented group of people we have assembled and the latest wind tunnel in the sport – he quickly understood what we are trying to achieve. We mean business – and so does he."
With Newey's appointment, Aston Martin aims to bolster its position in Formula 1, leveraging his unparalleled expertise to propel the team into championship contention. The partnership signifies a bold step forward, setting the stage for an exciting and promising era in Aston Martin's storied motorsport narrative.
