Williams have announced that Mercedes-Benz will remain as their power unit supplier from the 2026 Formula 1 season onwards, continuing a lengthy relationship between the two parties.

Mercedes-Benz and Williams Racing have announced an extension of their long-standing partnership, ensuring Mercedes will continue to supply engines to Williams through the upcoming 2026 technical regulation changes in Formula 1.

As the sport transitions to using 100% sustainable fuel in future power units, with upgraded electrical systems for enhanced performance, this collaboration represents a significant step forward.

James Vowles, Team Principal at Williams Racing, expressed his excitement, stating, “We have enjoyed a long-term partnership with Mercedes-Benz, and we are thrilled to extend this collaboration into the next era of Formula 1.”

Vowles praised Mercedes’ expertise, support, and technology, emphasizing that they align perfectly with the team’s aspirations. Toto Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, echoed this sentiment, expressing his delight in confirming Williams Racing as the second customer team to be supplied by Mercedes for the 2026 power unit regulations.

Wolff stated, “Today’s news highlights the strength of the Mercedes-Benz offering in F1 and importantly not only validates but reinforces our overall motorsport strategy.”

The newly introduced power unit rules for 2026 will see a shift towards a 50% internal combustion and 50% electrical power configuration, along with the use of 100% sustainable fuels. Williams’ decision to maintain their partnership with Mercedes showcases their trust in the established relationship and familiarity with Mercedes’ work.

This continuity also provides opportunities for potential collaborations, including the potential for Mercedes to run one of their junior drivers with Williams in the future. With a focus on rebuilding and strengthening the team, Williams can rely on the support of Mercedes for their power unit supply, allowing them to concentrate on other crucial areas of operation.
