2024 Sierra 1500 Adds 3.0L Diesel Engine Standard on AT4X

The powerful yet sophisticated Duramax engine, first introduced to the Sierra stable for the 2023 model year, delivers increased power and torque for world-class on- and off-road capability in the AT4X.

Today, GMC announced a major milestone for its extreme offroad Sierra 1500 AT4X trim. All AT4X models of the Sierra 1500 will now come standard with the rugged and refined secondgeneration 3.0L inlinesix Duramax TurboDiesel engine, bringing a significant boost in power, torque, and performance to offroad enthusiasts.

The Duramax engine received several key component upgrades, including steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a retuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control features. The result is an impressive 305 horsepower and 495 lbft of torque a 10% increase in power and a 7.6% increase in torque compared to the MY22 model.

John Barta, GM assistant chief engineer of Diesel Engines, commented on the engines refinements, saying,These refinements of the 3.0L Duramax TurboDiesel engine took an already awesome engine and made it even better for offroad applications. The outstanding lowend torque combined with the smooth and quiet power of this diesel engine, make it ideal for customers requiring onroad capability for things like towing, as well as offroad adventures like longdistance overlanding.

The Duramax engine will continue to be assembled at GMs Flint Engine Operations plant in Michigan, and will be available on the Sierra 1500 AT4X later this summer.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X also comes with advanced offroad capability, premium technology, and an exclusive, luxuriously appointed interior. Standard features such as Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear elocking differentials, combined with the additional capability of the available AEV edition, make the AT4X the most offroad capable factory Sierra 1500 ever.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X comes with features like full grain leatherwrapped massaging front seats, authentic ash wood trim, a 12speaker Bose Premium Series audio system and more than 40 diagonal inches of combined digital displays.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X also comes with additional new features for the 2024 model year, including power retractable assist steps on Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4 and AT4X, available active exhaust for Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4, AT4X and SLT, two additional premium aluminum wheels, and two new unique and bold exterior paint colors, Downpour Metallic and Thunderstorm Gray.

Finally, the 2.7L Turbo HighOutput Engine will now carry the name TurboMax for the 2024 model year. With 310 hp, a bestinclass standard torque rating of 430 lbft and max available towing of 9,500 lbs, the TurboMax engine provides GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation, SLE, and Pro customers with the power and capability necessary to take their work or hobbies further, whether thats towing gear or tackling offroad trails.
